| Tristan...I gave you a 6 on this...in the upper right corner I see to much noise and I would have bumped it up more if your noise reduction was better, getting a good program like Neat Image or something like that would have made an amazing improvement on this...the other reason for my score is that the shot isn't super clear and sharp (gotten to be a real stickler on this point). I didn't really take off because the drop on the bottom wasn't "perfectly round/spherical" I got the general idea |

I voted this a 5 during voting being that it met the challenge. First, I like the offcentered crop and the color choice. But, I think the image missed for a couple of reasons. The speed of your shutter is probably one of the culprits for lower score than you wanted. The edges of the water are not sharp and motion of the drops and water is creeping in to give the shot a slightly blurry appearance. If you look at images by  IreneM and other masters of the water drop here at DPC, she uses 1/500 seconds. She also has really perfected the lighting to get the images just so...plus she shoots and shoots and shoots until getting just the correct composition and effect and lighting. Also, I would imagine a different, sharper and faster lens than the 18-200 would also be in order to really nail these type shots.

| You may have gotten hit by the "not perfect sphere" crowd (I had some of that on mine, as well). However, I think your biggest problem is that water drops have to be perfect on here. There's been so many incredible drop shots, that it's hard to get a decent score without perfection. It's just that your drop is soft -- if the focus/stop motion was better, then the rest of the shot is quite nice. I love the background. |

| I gave this a 6. It isnt crisp as I think water shots should be and the angle is funky. Water drop shots are very popular and if you cant do them perfectly they tend to get ripped apart. |

It's a nice capture. I haven't really been able to catch a nice sequence of drops in a drip yet like you have on the top.
I kinda have to agree with Bubbles that it isn't really a sphere at first glance. It would be later, but in that shot it isn't being a perfect sphere. I wonder if the knowledge that it would spherise itself later on was enough for most of the voters.
I like the composition of the photo. I can't really make out what's being refracted in the drop though. It would have been really nice if I could. I can only imagine how tricky it would be though. Very nice background though. It's nice and warm and good for the trops.
I'm not convinced it's in focus either. The drop we look at I mean. It's nearly there but I'm not certain, and normally if you're not certain it's not, I've found.

It's totally a sphere, it just being affected by gravity. If you chop up an apple and eat it, you're still eating an apple vs. biting into an apple picked right off the tree.
Semantics strike again:
According to challenge description: âYour image should prominently feature one or more spherical (not just circular!) objects.â
Spherical definition:
1.
a. Having the shape of a sphere; globular.
b. Having a shape approximating that of a sphere.
2. Of or relating to a sphere.
3. Of or relating to celestial bodies.
Does anyone actually read the challenge descriptions? |
