An abandoned farmhouse stands along side US 380 on the desolate and isolated White Sands Missile Range, just 15 miles northwest of the site of the first nuclear blast.
On the morning of July 16, 1945 at 5:30am, if you were looking at this house from this angle, you would have seen a great flash and a fireball would have risen directly over this house, and just a few seconds later you would have been greeted by an immense boom.
In the intervening years, the house has suffered further degradation, both natural and man-made..
I must admit that this was one of the most disgusting shooting locations I've ever worked in, the house is quite literally FULL of animal waste and human debris, including a refrigerator, a couple of tires and many, many clothes scattered about. The floor is piled wall to wall, and about a foot deep with this waste and trash. The smell is awful.
The water tank shown in the photo is full of water, and antelope were present (and surprisingly tolerant of my presence..) when I arrived at the location, I even managed a couple of decent shots of them..
I will soon brave the smell of this place to setup and wait for some incredible wildlife shots of Antelope.. Maybe I'll bring a few clothes pins.... :) |

This shot caught my eye because I think you did well with your composition and using the wide angle to distort the cabin. The trees in the background both help and hurt. It is nice to have something else for the eye to see, but trees like that often wind up all jumbled and muddy, especially at these small canvas sizes. You did well to control the sky and your processing overall is very good. |

Nuclear blast? Must be at a former test site in the midwest. I'm guessing this could be a coryboehne entry, due to the suggested location. |
