Challenge: Chaos II (Basic Editing)
Collection: 2010
Camera: Nikon D60
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR
Location: home
Date: Jul 2, 2010
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/6 seconds
Galleries: Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jul 3, 2010

I had a lot of fun doing this.

Setup
* Lighting was done via a bedside reading light. Positioned by your left shoulder (where you are the camera taking the shot).
* Polished (even though you don't really see that in this. I changed my mind about what I was going to do mid-way through the shoot) the table top.
* I plugged my camera into my computer and used a program to trigger a photo a second. Got lots of photos.
* Started shuffling cards.

Some shots worked. Others definitely didn't. I was using a longer exposure for motion adding to the chaos effect (which is why this was exposed for 1/6 seconds) but they weren't... satisfactory.

Processing
Straighten, rotate, B&W, contrast, enhance blacks to bring out the arms, adjust, etc.

Pre-challenge criticism guess
* Not a chaotic picture
* There are some random blobs of white on the bottom (coudln't clone them out for the challenge)

I love the picture, it just wasn't chaotic. If it was a little more relevant I think it would have scored much better.

This was my favourite in this challenge, and deserved a higher score IMO. Congrats on a beautiful photo.

hey, a new 2nd PB - very nice. I thought the shot itself was very good and I was assuming that maybe the cards falling out of place was supposed to be chaotic. If that's the case, then I agree with one of your commenters who said that they'd like to see some more cards flying around. Overall, it's a good looking shot :)

I love the detail that is seen in the hands. They look like hands that have seen hard work and are now ready for some fun and relaxation. I love the darkness in the photo as well.

I really like this photo, but I think cards flying around being shuffled would be more chaotic.

Quite dubious...like a game of poker. The chance of winning draws you in but the shrewd hands of defeat can chap your butt.

I like the B&W processing on this.

You took a different route than most people with this one; it's not so much chaos pictured as chaos implied. I like the concept, and the picture is very solid, I put this one in my top 3.

Great picture! Shuffling a deck of cards is chaotic. Good job!

neat grunge look. Nice lighting, framing, etc. Looks like a touch of motion blur or something at the sleeves, but not a big deal.

Moody lighting and I like the idea here.
