Yeah, I'd have to agree about the sharpening. In fact, I think a softer focus would enhance this a bit more. Also, instead of USM alone, do USM + a mask derived from Find Edges. Adjust the curves on the mask. I think that would be a good compromise.
Oops...forgot to comment on the photo. Love the colors and the black background is perfect!

Sometimes when I'm zooming in on a flower a little guy like this pops up and I didn't even see him before. I like the glowing sense of the beautiful purple petals. |

I agree it may be a bit oversharpended but it's a great reproduction of the colors that just jump out at you. |

Wowzers, this one really jumps out at you!! Great colour. Maybe a bit oversharpened but I'd rather see it too sharp than too soft. |
