 My sister and her son at his college graduation. It was not until I was editing it that I noticed his diploma in his hand. This moment only happens once.

I agree with the DQ. I realize that I removed too much of the distracting background and I also expanded the canvas (black) to the right and bottom to center the image better. Was not being mindful of the editing rules. This is fair.
Disqualification Details
You may not use ANY editing tool to move, remove or duplicate any element of your photograph that would change a typical viewer's description of the photograph (aside from color), even if the tool is otherwise legal, and regardless of whether you intended the change when the photograph was taken. In addition, your border must be distinct and clearly recognizable as a border.

Sorry about your DQ on this lovely intimate image. It's not the first time I've seen a really great entry come undone over a border. What a shame!

Bummer about the DQ, but as the rules are written, I agree with you, and SC, that it was not acceptable. Fine, fine image regardless.
