I can see that the furthest two rows of trees have a very slight blue or blue/green color cast to them, while the rest of the image is neutral. The effect works visually rather well in a B/W image to give increased contrast. An interesting technique worth investigation.

the layers of texture created by the water, boat, trees, hill and clouds really is well seen

I like the separation of tones in the trees. The clouds look a little bit pixilated on my monitor.
