Initial thoughts
Sweet contents, composition weak.

Composition/ Content
The two little girls are attractive and the candid nature of the shot is appealing. It could be improved with eye contact though that would be difficult to achieve on a candid shot.
I like the way that the yellow colour is echoed in the clothing of both.
In terms of composition I’d rather have their feet/ arms included in shot – as it is the girl on the left is reaching out of shot – I want to see what she is reaching for.
The positioning of their faces within the frame is satisfactory and the line of the kerb balances this out in the lower third of the frame.

Background
The background is somewhat distracting – in particular I dislike the dark leg or pillar behind the girl at the right – it is not a good background for her dark hair colour and it means we lose the strong shape of her head. The other feet in the background are also messy. I do, of course, appreciate that this is only to be expected in a candid shot of this nature – I am expressing this only in terms of what would improve the shot further for me.

Camera Work - Technical
Focus seems a little soft in their faces though perhaps this is an issue of resolution, I am not sure. Colours and light have been captured well.

Fits The Challenge
Without the title it would be hard to relate this to any particular story and perhaps it would be worth exploring candid shots of the crowds which also include the parade. With the title this is certainly the kind of shot I could imagine in a local paper, in terms of content.

Your Opinion On The Photo
I find the image pleasant to look at but not to the extent of being drawn back again and again for further viewing.

very nice shot...IMO if you used a wider aperture and got rid of the background (blured), it would have been perfect.

Cute kids. This kind of shot has human interest. But can only go so far.

Bonitas niñas, pero más bien creo que era el desfile de la Revolución Mexicana, no de la Independencia.

Beautiful. I love the tongue. The other girl makes me want to wipe her mouth and hands. Wonderful photo. Very clear focus, great subject, beautiful color, great crop. Good composition with great execution. A one in a million shot. Great job and best of luck. PTL10

good exposure, color, and focus. i might have liked to see the girls' feet, but it doesn't distract that much. the foot between the two girls is a little distracting. good photograph.

This would be awesome in a magazine, not necessarily the front but definitely in a write up advertising the particular parade, good job! -8-

This is very good. Looks natural and unposed, and the yellow adds wonderful color. I can see this in the papers or a magazine. That tongue sticking out was perfect timing! Great! Focus is very good, exposure is too. Though there are shadows, they are soft enough to still see plenty of detail, and none of the highlights are blown out. You really handled the lighting well. Best of luck in the challenge. Please remember to keep an open mind when voting. Grayce aka Gracious

Great! very very good... I'm giving this an 8 because the girl on the left looks slightly out of focus, and I wish I could see her bottom hand. Nice job though!

I am sorry but Mexico's independence day is september 16th, what you witnessed is Mexico's revolution day (november 20th), which will be like the US's civil war....morterin
