 Changed the background color using the gradient tool and set it to overlay. I also desaturated it and darkened it.

I dodged and burned the horses to give them some sheen.

After that I added a few lens flares and played with opacity until I got what I wanted.

1st place. This is beautifully magical. The removal of the headstall contributes to the fairytale quality, although I do wish that the wires had gone too.
I know that my granddaughters will love to see this picture and would have chosen it for sure. The horses are their pets, although neither is a particularly suitable horse for 10 year-olds.
