I think that things can be highlighted as much by their absence as well as their presence. Even colours.

actually the orange and lemon were pretty worse for wear to start with! :)

the post processing was more to increase the contrast to bring out the textures than degrade the fruit.

Got creamed in voting as I expected. I think this would have done well in another challenge, but the DNMC's killed you. I think you knew they would.

I think desaturating was the wrong choice for this challenge. The whole point was to have color (orange), and I think there will be many that will vote you down for this. I do like the different textures that are presented in this picture from the peels, skin, table, leaves etc.

Just write the same in other photo: I dont understand why you allows an excellent image falling down, uploaded in a challenge about color. Ok, this is an orange..but what are you trying to prove? Clearly, they refer to the color, not to the fruit
