Great timing for this challange, I actually had to shoot portraits for my company's new website this week (the other portraits are here and here). DPC photography on company time!

The setup: I'm sitting by a window, holding a web-cam (Logitech Orbit) which is providing a live video-feed to a digital projector (via my laptop). I aim the web-cam at myself and the projector at the white wall behind me. The laptop is converting the color video to B&W and inverting the grayscale. I set up the 10D on a tripod in front of me, and discover that it's really hard to hold the web-cam steady with everything lined up. So I freeze the web-cam output, such that the projector is now projecting a still image rather than live video. Then 24 attempts with the self-timer and running back and forth, until I got this photo!

Postprocessing: just a little cropping and desaturating the background to get rid of a color-cast.

When they said "studio" portrait I don't think they meant George Lucas' ... very clever setup. Must have been hard to get adequate lighting without washing out the projection.

I wish we could see some photographer's notes so you wouldn't need the long title though ...

Don't care for the negative image in the background myself, but it doesn't really detract from the portraiture itself. Good lighting. Would love to see the technical details even though I wouldn't use it quite this way myself.

Lighting: The window light is great, and works well.
Pose: The tilt of the head is nearly perfect to make full use of the available light and expression.
Background: The use of the negative projection of your portrait as taken is a novel idea. The neutral grey works well, without over-powering any aspect of the image. The use of a negative projection of your portrait as it is being taken is a novel idea, kudos for originality in the challenge. However, it would have made a much better portrait of you if the projector and cam were not in the frame. As it is, it showcases the technology more than it does you. IMHO, technology is at its best when invisible.

Awesome idea! I think you'll discover different takes on this--perhaps making the projected image with a seperate expression. You look so clever in the color shot!

Now that's cool!! You have that devilish "how's that" look in your eyes and grin, so I figure you are very knowledgeable about picture taking. A 10 for originality for you, young man!!!

A very ingenuous execution. Going to look at your port.lol Of course, a slight higher clarity to find the eyes would have made this complete.

That background idea is so clever, I think it distracts a little from the portrait, which is very well done on its own: good choice of dark shirt to balance the light skin tones, great expression, and good pose. -8

very nice shot but a stretch for the challenge that depends on it's title, I think you tried to put too much into this photo

Really cool idea and composition. Your use of different elements in this photo make it much more interesting than the average portrait. I like the lighting and consequent color tones you have achieved .... I give a 9

This is just great...I love it! The lighting works well, and so does the landscape presentation. Great high-tech take on the challenge. I'll be interested to read about your technique after the challenge ends! :o)

Creative. The thing you are holding up, is a little too prominent in the photography imo. Especially if the viewer doesn't know what it is. At first I thought it was some kind of award or something, though your title helped me figure it out.

Otherwise, good portrait. Nice lighting, pose, expression. Very good.

The main light source is coming from the left, but you've tilted your head into which creates the majority of your face being in a shadow. It's not terrible, just noticeable. Nice and sharp, though ... cool idea.

Very original! Lighting looks a bit cold though. 7

Very strong theme, composition is nice, lighting is a bit too harsh here, I think. Good shot overall and a probable ribbon for the challenge.

9. I have no idea what he's holding..but the window reflection is cool and the background is neat. The focus, light and color are all good here. Good entry and good luck in the challenge.
