This is a real snowflake shot on an old black pillow case I took out to the backyard. It was snowing while the sun was out so it allowed me to capture the detail of the flake, but it also caused light to bounce off resulting in blown out, distorted details. I used my 18-55 with a macro lens.

Edit: Zoomed, croped, curves, cloned out a small piece of hair that was left on the pillow case. I tried to darken the blown out areas, but the result was way too plasticky and appeared too altered for my liking.
