My house is near the border of RMNP. It's a great place to live because wild animals come to visit all the time. This morning, I heard the wild birds (Stellar's Jays, Northern Flickers, Black-billed Magpies and Clark's Nutcrackers) raising a ruckus in the Ponderosa pines to the Northwest. About 60 of these birds were squawking about something in a 50 foot tree. I've seen birds do this to owls. Ravens will often harass a Great Horned Owl until it leaves the territory. But, I couldn't spot an owl. I was scanning too high. About 15' up in the tree an adult bobcat, lynx rufus, was lurking in the lowest large branches. I really love having the bobcat around, as they are great at reducing the population of rabbits, squirrels. gophers and other rodents. So, I captured some photos before leaving the bobcat to his hunting. 02/13/2010 |
