 First of all I do not imply any degregation of the United States colors, religion or race. This photograph is merely to reflect the ugliness of the current conflict in Iraq which is making headlines everyday.
This was shot using the automatic setting in my camera. The flag is from Wallmart and the dagger is a souvenir I bought when I was deployed in the dessert.
As the rule implies, "Basic Editing" so I just shot it, downloaded it then resized the picture to fit specifications. Also used Gaussian blur. I'm still trying to learn hot to use my cameras manula focus effectively.
To add some mood, I was listening to "Down with the sickness" by the group Disturbed.

Your title isn't a headline. It makes it difficult to evaluate this still-life as a journalistic photo since I don't know what story it is meant to support. Therefore, I must conclude it doesn't meet the challenge.

Photographically, the cropping is a bit severe to really make much of the subject. The extremely shallow depth of field combined with the cropping leaves very little of interest in focus. The section of flag in the background is in sharper focus then most of the sword or dagger. It took me awhile to make out that there is a uniform under the flag. I thought the splotching was weird artifacts from some kind of PS process. In the future, I would suggest you take advantage of the maximum image size. It is really difficult to evaluate a photo this small.

You are WAY braver than I am! :-) Technically, I would just like to see a bit more light on the subject and maybe more depth of field so the whole image is in focus. Good luck!

huh? I'm kind of confused by this shot. Not exactly something you'd see in a newspaper either.
