Bought a zoom lens for my sister graduation, so I had some fun with that, trying to keep steady without a tripod at 300 feet zoomed in. I surprisingly did pretty welll.

Levels and unsharp mask.

For a newspaper, too many backs and sides of heads, needs more faces.

A good idea, but there is no focal point. I think it would be more successful if you focussed on an individual instead of the crowd.

Your headline leads one to believe that there's something in the photo that points to graduation, but nothing in this photo really does.

would like to see a cap/gowned person to make the point a bit more

Boring, a poorly composed snapshot, no focal point, no sense of when or where this is without the headline. This would be boring in a slideshow for family, let alone a photo competition.

Can't see any reason for this photo to be in a newspaper. If it is about the subject that is bending down then I think there should be more focus on him and also showing what he is doing.

Not bad, Too many backs of heads though. We need faces. (and where's the grad's hats?!)

Nice attempt.
