Some friend's of mine are making a documentary about a friend of theirs who wants to break into the world of hand modeling. I am helping them build his portfolio.

Shot with a sb-800 through a white umbrella on the right side and and an sb-600 slightly behind him on his right. Triggered from the on board flash. I underexposed -.7 stops and let the CLS do its thing.

I think this is my first photoshoot with off camera flashes. It went surprisingly smooth.

I love reading what photogs write in the comments section. A doc about hand-modeling? Who woulda thought that? I bet it will turn out interesting.

Love the lighting and DOF. I also like that you can see the color and detail in both eyes. Thanks for sharing your lighting info.

There's good light there. Sometimes I think that Nikon flash system is close to cheating, but if you're going to get complicated...
It's encouraging to see this - and your info.

Nice story. Interesting you used the 70-200 for this (love the lens, but it's WAY too heavy for me to carry around).

The picture is so very well taken. Great clarity and light.

(It would be even better if the subject was a bit more relaxed).

What can you say about something so perfectly shot. This is a great image of a unique looking person with a great OOF background and super sharp subject. Great colors and pose. The only thing I could think of to do would be to abandon the rule of thirds composition and use a portrait crop with centered subject, but that is all personal taste. Excellent!

The background bokeh, as overawed as it is by the nice portrait, really adds greatly to this image. It gives the implication of suburbia as well as donating some cool cool colours. Nice work.

Wonderful portrait and nice background. Perhaps a little too much light from the left, the shadow is very harsh.

Interesting character, I like the dead pan pose.

A nicely lit portrait! Maybe a bit static for the title, perhaps some hand gestures or animation in the face.
