Just me, freezing my ding-a-ling off under a bridge in 17 degree weather. This spot sits at the end of a dead end street. The railroad owns the land under the bridge (the tracks are a few feet behind my camera). Two cops pulled in after I had shot off several photos and told me that the RR didn't want people near the tracks. They wrote down my drivers license and were using their flashlights to look into my car through the windows.(a little too nosy if you ask me - it wasn't a quick browse, they were checking out everything) I guess I might be a little suspicious too if I ran into someone taking photos around 3am in the morning. BUT, I was just coming off from work and I wanted to hit this spot while it was dark. I only wish it was about 15 degrees warmer. I was starting to have problems with my flash units shutting off and not firing after a little bit due to the cold.
PP'ing was pretty simple - most of the tweaking was in ACR. In PS I used NR, and sharpened a couple times during resizing.
Three flashes were used for lighting. Two from the sides to light the graffiti and one behind the pillar hitting me. If it was warmer, I would have spent a little more time adjusting the outputs. As cold as it was, I rushed though this to get a shot that was remotely close to what I wanted. Oh, and it takes roughly 10 seconds to scramble from the camera, to go around the concrete and then climb up on the ledge. I barely had enough time to get in a 'pose' for the shot. (using 12 second timer on camera)
I'm wondering if it will get asked for validation because it looks like some colors were removed selectively. They weren't - it just took a lot of tweaking in ACR to get it right. |

I really love the way the graffiti is so colorful in contrast with the ground, pillar, and roof. You did an excellent job on a self-portrait, even in the weather and with nosy cops. |
