Hi from the Critique Club
First impressions are that it is a nice shot with a quirky aspect to it.
The title is a great choice as it makes us think about what the picture is showing us - it draws us in to spending more time looking at it.
The lighting is good (I wish I could use speedlights as well) but that lamp is out of place in the scene being all yellow and bright and all. A bit of dodge/burn to lessen the impact of some of the busy elements in the background would have been helpful.
I'm surprised this didn't make a 6.x score but I guess that is more to do with it not having a "wow" factor for DPC than any real reflection on the shot itself.
This is a great shot and even if DPC didn't vote it as high as it should have been it makes a wonderful reminder of this time that women only experience a few times in their life.
Good work

I gave this a 9 and upon second look bumped it to a 10 because it deserved some extra kudos. I'm disappointed that it did not come in over a 6. It really deserved it, but we know broad appeal is fickle and unpredictable for most of us. Still, a high 5 in such a challenge is an accomplishement. Hope I can do photos of people this well someday. |

I wasn't going to comment on any more in this challenge, but I came across this and it amused me. I am wondering though, is the "storm" the oncoming baby, or the oncoming bad mood? :D |

My wife would agree 100% Boy or girl? Boy...Storm raging outwards...Girl storm brewing inwards. I only have boys..3 of them. I would not know about girls. Enjoy the calmness...oooh but this is best of 2009 so maybe the storm is there? 7 |

One of (if not THE) best pregnancy shots I've ever seen. Brilliant setup and pose and the lighting isn't bad either :) |

A wonderful memory... a wonderful photo. Composition is excellent. Love it.
Now... please bear with me... I'm revisiting a little comment experiment I conducted in the 2009-03 Free Study... something like K10DGuy's comments, but with a twist... the twist being, the story will move from one photo to another within the challenge... also, I don't select just a few photos I start at the first and end on the last as determined by DPC random order assigned to me, with a single sentence for each photo... should be interesting... and you're photo is #9 in the series

I generally don't care for pregnancy pics, but this is funny -- if only because it's novel and unexpected. Extra points for not having an older sibling kissing her belly. |

Great concept. Seems a bit soft, and the bright light in the upper left corner is distracting, but I really like the image. |

I like the humor angle of this. These photos are usually the sappy kind, which is fine, but honestly a bit cliche. This tells a story that's more realistic. It's a busy photo, but it's all put together very well. I especially like the bit of vibrant photo coming in from above that's balanced by the similar colored book on the other side.
To be honest though, what caught my eye in this photo that made me keep looking was the cabinet in the background. That's an awesome piece of furniture, heh. |
