 I took this at Machu Pichu, while on a mission trip in Peru. I thought it worked well in Black and White, and I tried to utilize the law of thirds here. I also liked how the background helped balance the picture. The negatives of this picture in my opinion were the grass in front of the Alpaca's face and the darkness of the face in general.

Thanks to all for the comments! Not exactly the score I hoped for, but it is good to know what I can do to make the image better. Also, thank you to posthumous for including this in his fantasy art compilation and to sfalice for the critique.

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Aww, old "Pancho" has been supplanted by an alpaca! Pancho was the reigning beast when I visited that site some years ago.
:-))

Of course this is a fine picture and you have many accolades from the knowledgeable people on the site. It works well in black and white and the placement of the alpaca in the grass is wonderful. It describes the site perfectly.

If I were to nitpic, and that's what I'm here for, I would suggest cropping out some of the left side of the image. Say, remove the area including those 2 people to the left. That gives undivided attention to the stone house and makes a nice triangle to the animal and back up, keeping the viewer in the picture.

Glad you entered this fine image. I had a good time reviewing it and remembering a great time there when I visited.

Love all the angles and juxtapositions in this photo. For me, the grass brings the alpaca to life, almost as if he/she were rising from flames.

really, really like this shot... but... and i'm sure i'm not the first to comment about this, it would be 3-4 times better with a crop of the left 1/3rd... (i'll vote as if it was :P)

the sky looks weird here. The b/w conversion is more gray and flat. it is a very nice crop and composure though.

Super angle. Feel part of the scene and this animal feeding here looks so natural yet we have town with people in background.

Interesting composition, I'd rather that all the grass wasn't in front of the animal. It's interesting looking so I'd like to see more of it.

Interesting scene! He looks happy there just munching on the grass!

I'm not sure the B&W, or at least this B&W conversion, was the best choice here. All the details have kind of blended together in the greyness.
