Greetings from the Critque Club!

Composition:
I think you did well framing this. The borders don't leave you wanting more around it, and it's definately sized right for getting the needed detail.

Lighting:
Your lighting is a bit harsh. The cheesecake(?) for instance is almost completely washed out, and is distracting because of it. You can also see the wash out on the very top of the milk flow. I don't think the camera picked up anything in those areas (aka blinkies).

Technical:
This looks like a really short depth of field, which works for you, except the cheesecake (i'm going with cheesecake) :D is too blurry and therefore distracting. I think it's a tad over-exposed as well. Getting proper exposure would've prevented the white-washed areas of the milk (again at the top) and the cake. It would've also prevented the wrinkles and shadows showing up in your background. (on my computer it's dark grey, not black) It would've really helped you to get the background darker. Right now too much detail shows up again distracting.

Post-Processing:
Your desaturation looks good, adjusting brightness and contrast would've helped fixed the background etc I think. Using unsharp mask might've fixed the soft focus cake as well.

Overall:
I think you chose an extremely unique subject which either helped or hurt you in this challenge. In this case I think in most people's eyes, it helped. My suggestions would be to use a larger depth of field to get all subjects in focus. The biggest improvement I think would be proper exposure. Both on the bright part of the milk, and also for making the background black hiding all it's detail as you intended it, rather than the dark grey showing the wrinkles and distracting the viewer from your subjects.

Good attempt, you have a lot of potential.

This is a very nifty picture, but I'm not sure I like having only the milk in color (which isn't much color at all considering it is a white product). I wonder if taking this exact same picture and keeping a hint of color on the cake (assuming it is also off-white, like a cheesecake) would balance things better. Leaving the hand, the cup and fork b/w is definitely essential. I love the composition, the black background, and the lighting. My comments are just thoughts, not affecting your score since I can't vote on member challenges. Good luck.

You know how much I just love this picture. It's a great subject, good focus, excellent dof. You would have been better off leaving the original background in place - your use of the burn tool did not eleminate it - there are shades of dark and light all over. Your picture has five main parts - hand, pitcher, milk, glass, and pie. The metal fork and white milk represent already greyscalled items. The hand and glass are composed of colors and shades people already understand and are the best objects to desaturate. Nobody knows what kind of pie or color the pitcher is - so these are the two subjects to consider highlighting and becoming your main subject. Because you selected the milk instead of the pie or pitcher - all you accomplished was coverting a color picture to black and white. I would have cropped this picture halfway through the pitcher and desaturated everything but the pie and the pitcher half to balance it

Hmm, doesn't look like there's any color left here, apart from a very slight tint in the milk.... Composition is very nice, but the pie is rather out of focus.

Milk colour as the one actual colour ..... very clever twist from the more usual bright colours. This works very well indeed. Only seeing the hand, not the whole arm, is also a great touch. 10

Very interesting to leave only a white-ish color saturate. You're braver than I am! And the shot came out really nice - good job!
