I really liked this shot and gave it a 7. I thought the same as others, that a little more contrast would be nice. I'm kicking myself for not spending more time looking at it the first time around, because I missed the photographers up top!! They add so much to the picture. The 800 pixel limit loses some of those fine details for people with lousy eyes, such as myself!

It really has a wonderful, nostalgic feel to it. So very nicely captured!

excellent conversion using the entire range of tones, Nice composition. My only niggle is that the smoke blends in too well with the clouds. I would have burned it a little more, 7

Very nicely composed locomotive and onlookers shot. Works well in B&W.

Those poor photographers up there, they shot the wrong side of the train. Fortunately you were there to capture it!

nice as a b and w...the people at the top are quite distracting

The people provide a welcome sense of scale. I like the old-timey fairly high-key processing.

Fun old-timey looking image. I do like the people leaning out of the train, that's very cool.

Is this in the North Yorkshire Moors? Really great capture...IMO I would like to have seen a richer tone in the blacks...but otherwise excellent job

I love the composition, but think the levels could of been adjusted better to make this pop a bit more. The focus and action of the coming train are very good.

Nice B&W and classic picture.i would have prefered to have less spectators there taking away the feel of this pic to a degree

Great subject, I can see where you're going with the B&W to give the photo an old fashioned look (at least that's my guess), but I don't think this particular conversion does the subject justice.

It seems to be lacking in contrast a little and the greys tend to blend together.

Great B&W, nice contrasts and lines that give detail and depth. Great subject.

Good use of a square crop, and I like being able to see the folks leaning out the windows! Nice sense of nostalgia to this.

I like the composition of this train with the orientation that the train seems to be coming at you as one stands just off to the far side of the tracks. Details are great as is the lighting. The thing that is holding back this shot from moving up into the above average category is that the contrasts are a bit flat and could be more dynamic. There is a lot of mid-grey tones here that could use a boost in the contrast such that there is more of a dynamic range of whites, greys and blacks. Sometimes just a straight greyscale or a colorize set at 0,0 is not enough and you have to play around with the brightness/contrast levels or shadow/midtone/highlights to get a greater dynamic range of tones.

I like the smoke, good detail. Seems tilted a bit and also a bit flat. Is this HDR? Might need more contrast.
