For some reason, the subject seems to be the gray waves in the foreground rather than the wind surfer in the back. This is probably because the blue sky and sails blend a little. |

I don't like the focus in this image, particuarly the waves. And the subject should be positioned up and to the right more. |

Not sure about the green sea and blue sky |

Great capture. I understand by your title that you are emphasizing the waves, but I think the impact would be greater if the blue was removed from the sky, also. |

The desaturation on the water in the foreground just makes it look muddy. |

This may as well be a full color shot. |

I'm sure you enjoyed my original comment. You needed to start with a good high contrast picture - the waves are a help, but, the empty sky is no help at all. Instead you have too much negative space in the sky and waves. To fix this - you could have cropped this picture just 10% right and left of the boat - made it into a vertical rectangle. A little magnification wouldn't have hurt .Then desat the sky and ocean - this would have fixed the negative space problem and made the boat really stand out. |

Horizon looks slightly tilted. I think this would still be an uninteresting photo, even in full color. |

It has a nice feel to it. Here's my suggestions to make it stronger. 1) The boat isnn't centered, but I'd like to see it a bit further left in the frame. 2) Did you try leaving the sky grayscale - it mat work better, and 3) The border pulls me away from the scene. |

That is a very rough sea. I wouldn't want to be out there in that. I love the way you photographed this -- you brought the intensity of the waves up front. I would have liked the waves to be more in focus though. Well composed. |

Awesome! Great job keeping some color near the top of the pic (where the boat is). To bad the breaking waves aren't a little more in focus. Otherwise it's great. |

This is an interesting shot, the DOF is well done but the desaturation leaves me really wanting. It looks like you just went for the waves in front, leaving the top portion of the shot in color and to me it looks like any other shot of a sailboat on the ocean. If you had isolated just the sail and had good black and white points (the waves in the front are prefect for the white, the horizon like would probably make a good black point) I think this shot would do much better. Also just a slightly tighter crop on the sides and bottom, taking out the Out of focus waves and some of the distracting ocean. If you do play with this shot, I would love to see the results! As is, a 4 |

if faced with such a shot, i might have been tempted to also extend the desat to the sky (possibly making the sky also darker to avoid blending with the sea and horizon) thereby making the allready bright sail more prominent. i like the near centre composition of the boat, and i greatly like the depth of field - the rolling surf slightly out of focus is (to me) lovely. very likeable and well compoed shot - just needs a trifle more editting in the sky department. 8. |
