I haven't been here long enough to develop what I consider a signature style so I used the opportunity to try something different.

I didn't expect this photo to score that high based on the subject manner and the also the polarizing taste for HDR and tone mapping. I just wanted to try my hand at it with something other than a landscape to see the response from DPC voters. In other words like many of my images that cover a variety of styles and techniques I viewed this entry as a means for gauging what people tend to like here.

My goal is to take that info gathered over my first 50 submissions and then couple that with subject matter and style that I like.

Hopefully this little experiment will yield strong and positive results in the future.

I did get some comments on it that ran the gamut, but in general they were mostly positive which I appreciate.

Having a number of people guess that I was established ribbon winners here at DPC made keeping this submission in the running easier.

Oh, and for those who thought it was smoke damage or otherwise (God forbid)...no it is not. Just processed to look very grungy. In reality the kitchen is spotless at all times. :)

From the kitchen shoot....

Just as I suspected. I had a lot of votes above 5, but it was the voters who feel if they don't like a technique rather than the photo or how well it was done they will still score it unfairly low. For those that gave it a 3 or below simply because they don't like HDR I say get used to it because it's not going away. Other than that Karma is knocking. :P

Well, I never suspected it was yours, but you are right, you haven't been here long enough for anyone to recognize your style. I see I wasn't the only one to mistake it for a bear_music entry.

Sorry but it's one of those HDR's I can't look at...

Gordon would say the same. The HDR is a bit over the edge for my taste.

This is interesting. I have no idea who it is, but from the fair amount of Topaz processed photos this one is among the best. 8

The kitchen and the over the top tonemapping screams Bear_Music to me.

Added: But it's not.

I like that processing. Its so hard to pull it off and make a photo not look overdone, but you have done just that.

Bahahahahaaa....I think I know who owns this Topaz'd kitchen! I hear you produce wonderful meals in it, Bear!

The picture has too much contrast, it decracts from the detail of the cabinets. The cabinets appear to be over burned.
