Greetings from the Critque Club!
Composition:
This is a great action photo. Lots going for it, the waves, the water spray, everything looks great. It's just not a good selective desaturation picture.
When you selectively desaturate you're making a new foreground. You should read this post I made about choosing good photos for it.
Lighting:
Your lighting is great. The only thing I'd like changed is the shadow on his face.
Technical:
Technically sound. It's in focus, your DoF was nicely chosen. I have no complaints here.
Post-processing:
This is where you need work. While it may not be very noticable. There is still color in _most_ of the photo. You barely desaturated anything. About all I notice is the far shore was desaturated. There is color in the water, on the board, on him, and on the cables. It really does look like a normal full color photo.
Overall:
You have a great capture here. It just doesn't work for Selective Desaturation. A great photo in the wrong challenge will still score badly.
I look forward to future submissions. |

This was not a good choice of picture to use for this challenge. Water and foam spray are generally a greyscale colored item in many pictures. Here it occupies 90% of the image and greyscaling is not noticed. The person is already the main subject - nothing else is in competition with him for that - leaving all the colors on the board, clothing, face, hands, and chute hardware make this picture look like a normal picture. The greyscaled trees in the far background add nothing to the shot..... just makes it look cloudy over there. |

excellent sports shot. I'll bet if the wetsuit were a different color, this would really stand out. Maybe a tighter crop on the left, leaving the spray, causing more of a close up on the surfer/skier would have really drawn the viewer in. Nonetheless, a great shot |

the yellow shorts work well with the desaturation. however, the black top doesn't really gain anything as far as isolating the subject through desaturation. the stop action shot is really good too. |

Very cool, the surfer jumps out at you but not in an "in your face" type of way. I love the flocus/clarity of the flying water drops, it's great. |

Excellent sports shot!!! Great 'colour' saturation. Love the compsition, kinda makes me feel like I'm right on the water with him. Well done and good luck in this weeks challenge. |

Photo looks like it's still in full color (or very close to it). I'm thinking a different photo would've been much more effective for you in this challenge. Still a nice try, however. |
