terrific work Deb! Don't know what it sings to you, to me it sings "Giacometti", not sure why.
...or perhaps "Giacomelli" (I mean his dancing monks)? or both?...

Brilliant balance of bw. Brilliant balance of energy. Spontaneous and utterly pared down. |

This is so cool!! I love it! All the way home from minnesota, I kept seeing batches of trees in the snow. They were so lovely, I really wanted to photograph them. However, it was snowing, we were on icy freeways, and I figured it wouldn't be a good idea to try to pull off on a shoulder with snowplows going by :D
However, I wouldn't have thought about trying a longer exposure. I love the shot and the effect. Thanks once again for helping me see past the ordinary! |

There is a very funky avant-garde feeling going down here.
In the right gallery you could sell this for enough to give up your day job and just bum about europe taking pictures . . .
Hey wait a minute - I think I'm onto you !! |

Reading your pre-challenge notes, I have to say this just another example of how it is impossible to predict broad appeal. A very high placement for something that you thought would do poorly. Don't you love surprises? (Got an 8 from me, btw) |

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: Such a dynamic image - I think you must have moved the camera vertically on a tripod in the snow. It works tremendously well. The monochrome, high contrast treatment is perfect for the subject matter.
Critical stuff: Nothing at all.
Overall: A very effective image - a brilliant fusion of subject, technique and edit. |

Very cool shot with the streaky trees and streaky falling snow...b&w really works well for this! |

Something fun about this image but also something manufactured. It is as if a brush was taken to make all the trees and stuff. Easily this can be a piece of traditional artwork and not a photograph. Maybe, maybe not. But the question is there. |

I'm guessing this might be an overlay of some sort? I really like it, particularly in b/w. 8 |
