From the Critique Club:
Not a fixed rule, but it is better to have selected an image with more color so that desaturation has its play.
For this picture you could have simply put a color ball and you are finished.
The composition is nice but not at all exciting because the texture is a constant and the subject too simple. Perhaps a broken bat or a tennis racquet would have added more interest.
Yet as a straight composition study it shows you have good judgment in making the best out of 3 items, the road, the line or crack and the ball. I am sure you will score higher as you apply this technique to other comcepts. The saturation is too rich, but this is a matter of personal taste. With less saturation it can pass into the semi-abstract class. This happens to us all, we select a concept and we die with it. The important thing is to go out and tackle the next challenge. dan

Looks like a normal picture of a red ball on a tar road. |

Yup, it is. While I think you did a good job technically here, I'm not really drawn into the photo. It's a pic of a ball on the ground. Had it been in color, I'm afraid I wouldn't have found it exciting either. The focus and clarity are good, lighting appears to be good, and you have placed the ball near the bottom right, and that placement is good. You did everything right, but it's just not my cup of tea. ~Heather~ |

Meets the challenge, but not terribly attention holding.
