 My first entry in some time and among the first photos since moving to the UK in Oct. There was a rare early winter snow mid-December in London and surrounding areas, so I set out with the 5D and tripod to capture some wintery scenes from our village. I'd wanted to shoot these British icons since arriving, and that night provided the perfect setting.

This is a single RAW file converted twice, once for the image overall and a second time to get back some detail in the brightest parts, blended together and processed in PS CS4. I thought selective desat really worked with this scene, partly because of the great contrast between the red and light against black and white, but also because the surrounding ambient light was a mix of types ... so the snow and background light was yellow, the foreground light was bright white, reflections had bluish tinge and so on. This processing also helped highlight the dramatic crisscrossing shadows in the foreground.

Great image and use of wireless flash. The shadow across the bottom is distracting, though.

There is something really fun about this image. I enjoy the contrast of the red against the black/white. The lights found a nice place as well as camera position to utilize but not blow out the street light. Overall this works well.
