Now that the snow is flying, it was difficult finding bugs. Luckily the basement is full of spiders. I shot inside, on a make shift set. I drilled holes in a 2x4. The holes were filled with 1-2 foot long twigs. Making a naturally feeling environment for him. For a background, I had some leaves from the fall. The leaves were glued to a piece of Bristol board. Then suspended behind the scene maybe 3-4 feet. The spider was coaxed into making webs, using water spray. I believe I used an on camera flash and a separate flash for the background. I had a ton of fun on this one. Hopefully, my new lens will start paying for itself. I love my Macro! Very slight reduction in highlights, sharpened image, removed a few dust specs, converted to jpg for web in iphoto.

The simplicity and limited palette in your image are its strong features. Perhaps greater depth of field to focus about half the remaining body could improve the overall effect.

Interesting. I can't tell if I'm looking at the top of bottom of the spider!

Gross but good close macro. Odd side and therefore bold as most shoot top down not belly up. Good focus and bokeh.
