Camera: Nikon D90
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Nikon
Location: Pacific ocean somewhere!!!
Date: Nov 8, 2009
Aperture: f4
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/3200

Date Uploaded: Nov 30, 2009

Woke up and looked out the window over the pacific on the way home to Melbourne from St Louis. Took a bit of editing to get to this, those grubby aircraft windows are terrible to shoot through.

Photo matrix, curves, levels, lucis sculpt, noise reduction, hue/sat. different WB for sky and engines using masking, burning.

About an hour of voting to go and I'm blown away, 6.9, my best FS score! Thank you for the fantastic comments. I though the noise, haloing and high saturation was going to have this shot struggling. Fingers now crossed for a possible top ten finnish.

It's a little noisy but that's a really beautiful sight, complemented by an interesting composition. 8

Really nice airplane shot, and wonderful post processing treatment. Not easy to make a shot like this pop, but you did. 9

I've seen photos from airplanes before, but hello! This one is by far the best!

One of the more outstanding and ambiguous shots-from-a-plane I've seen. 8 from me.

wow wow wow...8 for now but I'm sure it becomes a 10 at the end.
Yes, definitely my favourite even if I'd crop away just a bit on the top. 10

I haven't seen too many out of the airliner window shots that were more than snapshots, but this is good.

Oh, this is exceptional. My current pick for best in show. Not sure about the letterbox framing, but am sure about the rest.

Between LA & Melbourne? There's a lot of distance between those two points. Beautiful shot. Love the light.

Ahh... this could be... might be... is it? I suspect so... so I won't vote on it unless I find out otherwise...

Excellent colour and composition... and the details are great. Might be hurt by the noise and the haloing, but I quite like the effect... I'd give this a 7 or 8 (if I was to vote on it). Bet you it'll do better than my FS entry. :)

Way to make use of the engines. A shot of just the view would be lovely, but the engines somehow complete the photo for me. I'm not a plane buff or anything, it's just a compositional/interest thing I think.

The border makes this shot as it "legally" gives the impresion of the earths curvature. Nice work
