 I attended a charity event as a volunteer photographer and a local live band was playing while attendees endulged in winetasting and tasty foods from local restaurants. The 3 man band consisted of a jazz drummer, the base player and a pianist. The band went on a 10 minute break so I quietly took some snaps of their instruments, the base being laid on it's side so the background is of the concrete floor. I don't know what the red string is for but I decided to leave it in just to keep it in it's original state for the owner's sake. This one came out better than I expected and so decided to enter it in as my very first entry on DPchallenge. Thanks for looking :)

Thank you to all that posted a comment for my first entry to DP. It was very scary to finally hit "submit" on this but I'm glad I did it. I hope to continue to learn and grow from all comments and keep challenging myself to be better. Happy Holidays!

This is among the best in show. Great subject, capture and presentation. Love the form and colors. I could see this in a gallery.

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Interesting object and quite beautiful when we are asked to look at it in this way.

Critical stuff: I think too many of the technical are off to make this a great shot - your lighting is flat, the focus isn't quite there and I think there is quite a bit you could do in PP to bring out the texture and colour.

Overall: I can see what you were going for but I don't think you have fulfilled that vision.
