It's not a really great photo but I felt it fit the theme.
I was in Las Vegas and someone told me that after 9/11, a lot of people started leaving T-shirts outside of the New York Casino. So they built a memorial which included some of these shirts. I don't know all the facts, but I thought this was a pretty cool display.

The photo isn’t too exciting so I am not bothered by the score. However, this is definitely NOT a DNMC photo. I think the problem with this challenge is that people see the word “spirit” and expected a “rah rah” kind of approach and maybe are looking for cheerful photos. This one, of course, doesn’t have that.
The form of “spirit” that I am referring to revolves around people in the US who are ready and willing to jump in and help others in their time of need. For example:
*Hurricane Katrina – people from all over the country went down to help clean up, rescue pets, and rebuild. Those who could not go donated supplies.
*9/11 – Pretty much the same thing. People all over the country wanted to find a way to help those who were directly affected by that tragedy.
*On a more local scale – I’ve seen people rally together to help a family who loses a home because of a fire; I’ve seen people work together to help families raise money to pay for cancer treatments for their children. Even at work, when someone has a death in the family, co-workers will find ways to cover this person’s teaching assignment so that they don’t lose any pay.
The key word here is “rally”. People band together when others are suffering. There is this desire to help people make it thru the difficult moments of life. Shirts like the one in the photo serve as a reminder that there are people out there who are rooting for “you” and care about you. And it’s this collective force that I consider to be the “spirit” of this country. |

Tilt and angle of the cases and glass form an interesting plane..... I see the beginning of a row of archived artifacts in cases artificially illuminated.
I thought originally that these carefully displayed objects contained possibly a series of sewn embroidery of some form. Mundane objects with instant historical value?
Even after your description the objects remain obscure artifacts..... a tee shirt dedicated to firemen, inscribed with sentiment.
The next case is less clear, and the next - only a corner to indicate this continues.
Like the dusty and faded battle flags from another era. |

Hard shot to make + in the dark. I get the message and it's meaningful. Good try and it fits the challenge. |

It stands out from all the military-officer tribute shots. Love the lighting and B&W. 7 |

I get the message but I don't think the shot shows the spirit of the USA. Sorry, DNMC IMO. |
