... or the sequel, For A few Dollars More (with no apologies to Clint Eastwood or Sergio Leone) ... money/greed seems to be the current ethos of the USA, especially unearned money (think Super-Lotto or Wall Street), and I wanted an image which would also echo the image of the Statue of Liberty.

I wanted to get a shot with sun-flare behind the fist to evoke the torch flame, but by the time I could set up the shot the sun was positioned where there would have been too many trees/leaves in the background.

his "statement" is spot on the challenge, IMO. the greed is good immorality ran into the perfect storm of a willfully ignorant populace that worships militarism. guess what? we cant afford empire now. time to see if perhaps our values are askew; time to see if our citizens might needs some of these bucks instead of the arms merchants and the other war profiteers. but I digress. great job of smacking the challenge theme over the head!

Well, the Statue of Liberty reference is a little vague, but I'm glad someone made a critical statement!

Rather dark and flat

Great idea and composition, but I think that you could have improved the exposure, metering the sky and using some fill flash to give more colors to the picture.

Great idea, but the skin colour looks realy odd.

On the money in terms of meeting the challenge.

A tad under-exposed.

This is crying out for a poignant background (like a school or hospital perhaps) to amplify the cynicism.

IMO I think this would work better with the light source on this side of the hand instead of backlighting it..

This is sadly sometimes only too true. It would be nice if we could change that spirit.

It's under-exposured to me.

possible a reflector to add a bit more detail might have added to this image
