I cheated. My wife held the leaf just above the frame. I focused from there. I had nice baclight but I did a couple of test shot to get the light I liked. Thanks for the kind words. =)

AWESOME! one of the nicest and most unique foliage shots I've seen..I always wish I could do this but never seem to have my cam when they're falling..

I have tried hundreds of times to get a photo similar to this with a leaf frozen in mid-air. This is excellent in every way!! Did you spot meter and/or use selective focus on the leaf?
