Ran across this leaving work one day. This helicopter was busy moving about a dozen air conditioning units into a new office building.
The overcast day with heavy backlighting gave me some issues with noise in the photo. I think I overcame them with some careful post processing and selective noise reduction, but it could have been better. Hindsight being what it is, I should have moved to the other side of the building to get the light from the other side. I also just looked at my exif and realized I was shooting at ISO 400 with a really high shutter speed. Probably would not have been able to stop the rotor blades at a lower ISO, but I would have had less noise to deal with.
Pre-challenge notes:
I think this is good for an average somewhere in the mid 5's, but nothing really surprises me. It'll surely get it's share of low votes.
Anticipated critiques:
-Too dark
-Overprocessed
-Composition does not work
-Background is dull.
-Do not see where the use of the tilt is
-DNMC, Rotor blades show a little bit of motion blur (Yes, I expect someone to be that nitpicky!)
Post-challenge notes:
As expected, this had too many flaws to place highly. Considering the poor lighting conditions I had, I think I got the best out of this that I could. I did have better shots from this session, but none that I felt fit the challenge. |

The burning of the clouds could be improved. |

I like this a lot. I'm a great fan of the hard crop so its good not to see what is being lifted. |

this definitely shows the 3 elements, but the underside of the helicopter isn't so interesting...no offense |
