This is one of those ideas that was better before I tried it than after. It is three different shots from a tripod. Originally, I wanted three vertical panes, square on the bottom and smaller as they went up, but had to get creative with the boarders to make it fit.

Lighting was a pain. 1200 watts halogen on the wall in the background. I don’t have a remote flash, so I had to bounce it off some fiberboard to light the foreground with another piece blocking the flash light from hitting the background. This setup made the trails darker, as the balls blocked the background light. I tried lighting only the balls to get trails of the same color, but the trails were just not bright enough.

It was difficult to keep the hand from blurring during the long exposure. As hard as I tried not to, I kept tracking the ball with my eyes and would follow it with my hand. Not good for a slow exposure. In the end, I held by hand as still as possible (without looking at the ball) while my wife threw the ball. To complete the challenge in time, I had to put it together without getting the shots I wanted

I like the different take on the borders and the trails on the balls. But perhaps some more vibrant colours could make this stand out more.

I like the trails and that the pictures aren't cut up into squares for separation.

I like the unorthodox divisions of the panes. You've done a very good job of continuity and motion through the panes. The counterclockwise motion of the ball path is opposite of what Western culture expects to see - not sure if that is a deliberate distraction. IMO, this could have been a bit brighter / well lit overall - the top is almost too dark.

Extra points for being innovative in the way you've brought the three images together, but the hand lets it down a bit. For me it would have needed to be either sharper or have some motion blur of it's own.

Great idea... but too blurry imo.
