 Seven Shot HDR

Thanks to all for a top 20 finish. I got up at 4 AM to drive the two hours to this spot in order to get a sunrise shot. It was one of the only decent days I had to shoot. My hope was to get the sun before it became visible as it moved off to the side of the mountain. Unfortunately my timing was off and this is what I found when I arrived so I set up quickly and fired off 7 bracketed shots to catch what I could. Processing was with Photomatix to combine and tone map, then a combination of Lightroom 2, PSE7 and Nik filters to finish it up. I stayed on for a couple of hours and did more shots as the sun got higher but this was the best. Here is a B/W I did from another 7 shot series later in the day as the sun rose above the mountain.

Nice work JB. I like the "large blob" of a sun in the sky. Makes it look like a science fiction scene.

Nice picturesque scene with good colours and exposure especially with the sun in the frame!

I think if you had got it with the sun just a touch lower it might have looked better and avoided that "large blob in the sky" thing that the sun tends to do in photos.

beautiful scene. I only favor a more natural processing technique. don't care much for the hdr look. awesome lake though. and amazing cloud!

Reflection is lighter than what is reflected, which is always a problem for me. There is banding around the blown-out sun as well. Both of these distract from an otherwise exceptionally lovely scene, for me.
