Don's right. It's a cat ("familiar") that the lady is reaching down to pet. It's a mousser that lives in the Bodega and spends a good deal of time in the basement so when it comes outside a few times a day it get's a lot of hugs by passersby. Like clockwork...therefore an Automatic Transaction Machine...get it?

Ah! It is a "pet" of sorts! A familiar, then, per Don. (And I apologize for my terrible typing/spelling/word-forming skills of late. I shall go fix my rather hard to read comment from during the challenge.)

I sort of figured this maybe yours, the urban scene seemed to fit in well with your style. I also happened to be one of your 10s. This one worked very well for me. And glad to see you got some Don bling :)

This is so strange. Just want to hang out here and wait for more comments like Don's and Deb's.

This could be a missed focus, but I'm left with the impression that it wasn't.

I'm assuming maybe this is a lensbaby shot? This is one of the best ones because you used the blur to create a story. And it's obvious that your focus missed the more interesting scene. I'd love to know what he or she is reaching down to grab. Is it a bag, or a bottle? Or is she reaching down for an animal? Great catch. 8

So many stories. And I wonder at the old lady, if she is falling to throwing, but it doesn't matter. Tones well handled. Thank you for the monochrome! Well done! 8

I keep thinking of a commercial a few years ago, where a boy in some foreign country took some lost American visitors to see "Etiem". They assumed it was the local wise man. It was "ATM" said with an accent.

Fabulous. Definitely one of my top picks. Well done

Good use of controlled blur.

This one works for me, and not just because I happen to really relate well to Lensbaby stuff. Mostly because of the woman bending over. The ATM is immaterial - it serves to light the scene. The woman is what I want to see, and yet cannot. Is it a bag she's reaching to pick up? An animal to pet? The lack of crisp focus lets the story be what the user sees. (edited for typos)

I avoided the Lensbaby for this one because I felt that since the lens is all about selective focus and because that act of focussing is (for me) the very essence of its use, its applicability for this challenge would seem a little diminished. -every unfocussed element becomes a choice.

However, the image is great and I have scored according to that rather than favouring my own interpretation of the challenge. I think it's high on the 'compelling' scale so I've offered a 7.

Seems like a lensbaby image. Appears the person on the right is the main subject but I don't see what's "compelling" about the pic. It may be too out of focused to see the compelling story of what the person is doing; is she(?) picking something up or sweeping?
