Even still, with a better crop I wouldn't have hesitated to give it a strong score. As it is, I score it a 4.

Thanks for the constructive comments ericwoo and everyone else. Initially, I didn't want to just take a photo of a '9' or nine items as I wanted to try to make it a little more interesting - so that is why it's not necessarily easy to see the nine right away.

I agree with the comment about the narrow crop, unfortunately, with the rose and lemon being placed on my tiled window sill, a less narrow crop would have had resulted in unsighlty detail in the corners so I chose the lesser of two evils as I saw it.

As for being a shoehorn, I can understand that critisism as it was a bit of a bodge! Having looked at the other submissions, I have seen that there are certainly ways to make an interesting and beautiful picture from seemingly ambiguous and less inspiring subject matter.

Smart idea. I would have liked to see the lemon more in focus, since it is the larger roundness for the 9. But this way the image flows better.

It's a stretch!

I lkie the texture and colors of the rose. Although used for the "nine" configuration, the orange is the weak part of the composition.
