Thanks everyone for your (good and not-so-good) comments!
Specifically,
@bassbone, @vlado:
Here is another version of the same image, with a little of the oversharpening removed around the lifeguard stand. It's difficult, at best, to remove all the sharpening artifacts when tone-mapping to that extreme.
@kivgaen:
It was relatively dark that evening. Have you calibrated your monitor? ;-)
@LadyK:
Yours was a unique comment. Everyone that thought it was overprocessed didn't seem to like it. You said it was overprocessed, but liked it! Thanks!
@ineedauniquename:
The title is an abstract title.

Commenting as part of my Team Suck duties...
I really love the clouds, composition and colours in this shot and the details you've managed to get in the sand with your HDR processing. I feel the ONE thing that hurt this image was the pixelation (from sharpening perhaps?) around the structure... as your eye is naturally drawn to the subject, and then the pixelation just really jars. I reckon this would have easily been a top 10 if not for that one little issue... but having just looked at the other comments, perhaps its just me that the pixelation is an issue with. Anyway... I'd love to see this if you reprocessed it with the comments it got in mind. |

Acute angle to the sun makes this a very difficult situation. The sky is interesting. The beach and guard stand have some detail in the shadows, but are somewhat underexposed. |

Stunning sky, but perhaps a bit overdone on the tone mapping. Nice sense of expanse. |

another one make me go ooooohhhh. The hut could be whiter I'm sure and I'm so glad you didn't do that to it. Fave so far. Just noticed the title ... don't quite get it. |

I shall be rating this challenge by the following criteria:
1 - Not HDR in my opinion
3 - HDR is way over-done, in my opinion
5 - A reasonable use of HDR, but not a very engaging photo, in my opinion
7 - A reasonable use of HDR, and an engaging photo, in my opinion

I love the sky in this picture, but my problem with the photo is that it is too dark overall. Personally I would have brightened it up a bit. |

The stereotypical "HDR look" is very strong here. (Duh). I like it. Of course, the sky is fantastic, but you knew that already. |
