neither shall ye give it a high score, or it shall hang upon my home page like a curse, for verily the sight of it doth not please me, but I have made experimentation of the HDR and, lo, it is good.
I, in fact, did not use HDR, because I couldn't get it to work, but I did do all kinds of masking and blending on three different exposures of the same picture. |

Apparently I really like this. I keep stumbling across it and enjoying those stumblings. |

Hi from the Critique Club
You asked for a comment from a Critique Club member.
An interesting shot, I thought this one was for deep DOF until I realized that it was not over yet. I do actually like this shot, in your comment you said it was not HDR, but I think that the details adn depth that you brought out this could well have been a very subtle one. I love the leading line of the tree branch and the punctuations of red from the apples.
This may not be the most interesting subject in the world, but I think it is simple and clean. Your horizon is tilted a far amount. you have amazing clouds going on, maybe if you had darkened them a little more on the edges and the ground it would have set off to be a more moodier shot and really popped that tree. Maybe a crop off the bottom would have benefited this shot as well

Commenting as part of my Team Suck duties...
I think the biggest issue with this image is the centred composition... that and the fact that it doesn't look HDR enough perhaps, though your faux-HDR processing did a decent job of giving the clouds a HDRish feel. I'd ask you not to give up on HDR... I think there's a lot of good Team Suck and the like could do, artistically, with HDR. |

God experiments that laughter shall burden us as apples fallen from the tree. |

That is HDR, you know. The "real" way - by hand. So it DOES count, you silly man. And indeed was one of those I visited repeatedly. Nifty shot. LOVE that you changed apertures and ISO, and not shutter. Very innovative! I shall have to try that. And (insert deity of choice here) bless the 10-22, for it is good. |

Love the composition of this, and the HDR adds to the rather ominous feeling the composition engenders. |

Center middle composition. Flat light and colors. An unhelpful sky. But, at least the image is natural looking. |

Stunning, I wish I could better tell the subject from the background. Colors are spot on, just how I like em' 6/10, could have been 7 if plat popped out a bit more. great work! :) |

I shall be rating this challenge by the following criteria:
1 - Not HDR in my opinion
3 - HDR is way over-done, in my opinion
5 - A reasonable use of HDR, but not a very engaging photo, in my opinion
7 - A reasonable use of HDR, and an engaging photo, in my opinion
10 - A fantastic use of HDR, and an out of this world photo, in my opinion
