Taken from my car as I waited at the stoplight in downtown Bennington, Vt. To me they just looked like they were in a zoo exhibit. I didn't even have the camera ready, but the red light was so long that when I saw them I thought - duh! Take a picture. So I got this shot off before the light turned green. It is a long light. I guess what I saw was a thought about how interesting this looks if you view it from two different time periods.

Period A: Modern day and she is obviously talking on a cell phone...as he waits patiently.

Period B: Past times (for me at least) and she looks like a caged animal who wants out and he looks like he wants to impress the visitors at the zoo by not actually picking his nose but accomplishing the same thing.

Smile! The whole world is watching!

Waaaaaay underrated. This image speaks volumes and tells a detailed story. I'm dying to know what the argument was about - or even if there was one... They obviously know each other very well. Beautiful "day-in-the-life" capture.

I quite like this. You get the impression these two have been together for ages, don't you? Same postures, more or less. And yet they're not even paying attention to each other. They don't need to after all this time - they just enjoy the time out together, even if they do have their own thoughts. A very nice catch - well seen and good you got your camera up and the shot taken before the light changed! I find myself wishing I'd do stuff like that a lot.

Oh my cup of tea. Fabulosa. Joined at the hip. Complete with bars and stripes and shoes.

I think this is so interesting - keeps me guessing as to what is really going on between these two people - are they sad? mad? worried? or just plain bored?

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Probably the most significant title of any image I've commented on in this series. The degree to which you have communicated with the viewer is in stark contrast with the communication exhibited by the couple. This is an image which is more about story and journalism than it is about technique and art and in that context this is a great image.

Critical stuff: Not too much, given the context of the image

Overall: A fine photojournalistic image with a great metaphoric title.
