 All manual, hand held shot with AF 180 2.8 in shade. Basic adjustments, cropped to about 4/5 of the original shot.
This was at the place where I was working. I walked to within about 12 ft of this one and his friend.
This may be a young one which still has a trace of the brown feathers.

For some reason his eye looks particularly wide open to me, like a dopey cartoon bird ;-)

very nicely done and that's great you managed to get so close. that's one of the things i like about taking pictures of animals, trying to get as close as possible without scaring them

Must have been a difficult shot under the shade conditions and distance you shot it from but, really a lovely photo to see!
