This is perhaps the the only shy child I met during my week in El Higueral. Most kiddos were clammering for a photo-op (it was so fun) and then laughing when they got to see their image on the camera display. This little guy was different. This shot had a fairly slow shutter speed so I adjusted my camera settings and tried to move in a bit to reshoot and he dissapeared. Turns out the focus was good enough anyway.
This is my favorite kid shot from my week-long medical mission trip to Nicaragua. El Higueral is a very poor village near the base of a volcano. The needs of the people there are great. We saw 2,882 people in the medical clinic in 3.5 days. We also had a dental clinic, pharmacy, vetinary clinic, benevolence (clothes, shoes, toys, toiletries, rice, beans, etc.), and of course we shared the Gospel message of salvation in Jesus Christ - the most important reason we were there. There were 48 people on the mission team. It was awesome.
I just take our old Cannon 300D on these trips since there is risk of it being broken, lost, or stolen. Shot in RAW -lightroom conversion. PS - converted to b&w and then soft light. Burning, cloned out one hair, sharpen, vignette, curves, neat image, save for web.

Oh Aimee! What a beautiful story, and such a beautiful child! As I was reading, I could just envision you playing with a swarm of delighted children and your heart being all mushy. I'm going to check your portfolio because I hope there are more pictures from your time there. If not.. . could you fix that ?? :) |

This is a lovely potrait. I would have liked a squarer crop , cropping of the sides , especially the right which distracts.
The gaze from the child is intense. Bumping to 8 |
