My view at 7 am, walking into work from the parking garage. I've always liked the way the rising sun hits the building, but didn't have a good challenge to use the scene for.
I had done a casual shot of this with one hand, just testing out my pawn shop special Powershot A530. I thought it would work for this challenge, and be particularly appropriate with this month's Point & Shoot side challenge. After editing and getting something I really liked, I realized the shot was taken the day before the challenge was announced. I shot it again this morning, walking outside the building several times, trying to get the right light as it came up. I got pretty close to my first shot, except that the first one had some nice clouds reflecting in the windows.
I'm pleased with the clean lines and smooth glass I was able to get, especially with a P&S camera, under basic rules.
Pre-challenge notes:
I think this is pretty good, with nice colors and tack-sharp. However, it is a cliche architecture shot that has been done to death, so I will be expecting a low to mid 5, and hoping for a high 5 out of it.
Anticipated critiques:
-Mostly expecting a lot of no comment 5's and a few 6's.
-Someone may not care for the tilt.
Post challenge notes:
Came in just above my average and well into the top half, so it performed decently enough, especially for a shot taken with a P&S that was $30 at a pawn shop. A bit disappointed in the lack of in-challenge comments, though. That tells me it was decent enough, but nothing really wowed anyone enough to leave a comment. I think I proved what I wanted, however, and that is that I can hang with the pack, even with a cheap camera.

humm, here is my opinion about the score. I think technically it is 7/10 photo. Some good marks for composition too. But in the end it is something we see always around and thus it is difficult to sell untill it is extra-ordinary.
i once entered similar thing and got similar score :
I really like this picture, i didnt vote so didn't leave the comment (sorry) but I thinks it's way better than some of the photos with a higher score. Amazing colors.
Wow. I went to the Canon A530 camera page here on DPC and discovered there are 83 people that own this camera. :-)
Regarding the photo - I like the perspective you selected. The angle of the lines gives some nice tension to the image, yet is still easy enough to view without having to lean one way or the other.
I had the same crap till late last night. I've been dying the whole 2 weeks as my entry was only my 2nd attempt on DPC and at one point was 5.4ish. One lone commenter at the 11th hour! At least it was a comment that was useful. I liked your shot, cliched for here, yes, but the blues on the windows were simply brilliant and complimented the tan facia.
