 Taken with 400mm f/5.6 prime with 1.4x teleconverter on tripod. A pretty large crop but focus was spot on. I love the light in this shot.

As other's have noted, the lighting is spectacular on this shot ... the catch light in the birds eye always increases the composition and I really like the way the branches pick up the color in the bird. Nicely done.

The lighting and tint is from the time of day. It was taken probably about 30 minutes before the sun went down and it was just shining right on him. I try to shoot during the morning and evening to take advantage of this light.

Nice light here -- the early morning/late evening light resulted in the bird being illuminated thoroughly.
