An experiment here. Still testing the new basic rules. I did the B/W conversion with a beta test copy of Topaz Detail. It is intended to provide finely controlled detail and tonal adjustments that retain a realistic look. I also expect it will be my preferred method for B/W conversion. Very nice control.
It's also one of my first shots with the upgraded kit lens I just bought from Tammster. Not the same as having high end glass, but it should still be an improvement over my original kit lens, and it's stabilized.
Same setup as my oil entry, but lit and processed a bit differently. This time I wanted to show a spinning movement of the chain and freewheel, which should draw attention to the circular freewheel, as well as the wheels and tires, which are implied, though out of the frame. I simply spun the pedal backwards during the exposure.
I'm very pleased with the tonal range and the strong B/W I got out of this.
Pre-challenge notes:
I anticipate this will either sit in the mid 5's with few comments, or it will do well and nail a 6+.
Anticipated critiques & comments:
-Someone may feel it could have been cropped differently.
-Though not really a critique, I expect some observant folks to notice that the chain and freewheel are moving, but not the spokes, which indicates I was turning the pedals backwards.
-Might get a nice comment or two from a Campy fan.
And for any who notice, yes, I do ride a triple. I need the extra leverage!
Post-challenge notes:
I'd thought I had a pretty decent shot that met the challenge well, but the votes and comments tell me the circle of the freewheel was not prominent enough and that I probably received a lot of DNMC votes. I can live with that.
My appreciation to to those folks who took the time to comment, especially the ones who left me feedback explaining the reason for a mediocre vote.

Great shot! there are a couple of things though that could be ironed out.
Even though I know it is a wheel, it is not coming across as a circle. The round thingy (freewheel???) is round but it is not dominant enough to be round enough for this challenge. Even though everything is an implied round, it is not round. Your spokes are too dominant as well as the gear changer thingy. The blur of the chain going around is excellent.
Post processing is excellent, you are sharp, clean, clarity is amazing, choice of black and white outstanding.
although I know this is a wheel and it is round, in the picture I do not see enough circle(s) to really vote higher on this....sorry your focus is excellent although...I gave you a 6
