This bird is tough to capture, when approached they "keep their distance", and when in a rubber inflated boat - best for me to not get too close to the sharp beak. DOF was a bit of a challenge - wings and body were sharp, but the head is not a sharp as I would like.

Perfect shot, in my opinion. No need to enhance with Photoshop effects...

Hi from the CC Club,

What a gorgeous Heron, amazing capture.

As you wrote in your notes the head is not as sharp as it could be, but it is pretty close to it. I believe that this shot is just a tad bit too bright. The foreground and background are so bright that they are almost over powering the bird. Toning down the greens a little in Post processing would have made the bird pop off the page.

Dodging and burning would have been your friend in this shot. Saturation sponge/selective colours, curves could have brought out the intense colours of the bird.

I think you did an amazing job for sitting in a rubber boat, I could not capture this with a tripod on land.

Well done

Nice, naturally framed heron. Would like to see colors a bit more saturated though to make it an 8 or 9.

focus is good and the bokeh nice, but perhaps the bg should have been more out of focus with a wider aperture as it grabs your attention and competes with the bird...7 in any case

I believe this is a Goliath Heron from Southern Africa. Beautiful capture

Nicely frozen capture. I think you could have toned down the brightness a little. Use brning in this case to bring out a little more details in the herons head and neck feather areas. To isolate the subject better , I recommend selectively blurring the background more. (no vote)
