 Yeah, another blue.

Wasn't sure about the background blur, so sent in into SC before challenge and got the OK just after it started, so sat sweating for a short while. Anyway, got the OK.

Steps ( as far as I can remember ! )

Cropped
duplicate layer
created mask using the pigeons
applied guassian blur to background layer
merged all back together
converted to B&W and border white with white vignette
re-sized
sharpened
little burn under the two birds
save for web

Stoked at third blue.....cheers all!

congrats alan .. brilliant shot, excellent process and just had to get the blue .. !!.. i'm shaking my head over your score tho .. i think it deserved over 7 .. :)

Wow - I'd have never guessed the 10-22! I can never get that kind of DOF with that lens. Very good use of the vignette to show off the birds and simply a great pigeon shot!

For me it's a textbook example how you can turn an average photo (it's just a guess, sorry if I'm wrong) into a fantastic picture with some clever post-processing. Well done and congratulations on the blue!

absolutely fantastic image .. love the orientation & the way you've caught one looking straight at you ... excellent focus on the birds but soft everywhere else .. brilliant in b&w .. good luck .. 10..:)

Nice shot. The border could have very easily been distracting but it really worked in this case. It really brings your attention to the two birds. I like the dof with the ground and the birds in the background. Also at first I thought it was in black and white but I guess not. It just kinda looks like it. Either way it looks really good. I would love to compare it to the original to see what if anything you did with the colors.

Absolutely AWESOME depth of field used here. I love the ground perspective - I tried to get a shot like this and failed miserably, so thank you for not only pulling it off, but pulling it off VERY well. Excellent in B&W, too. (Now about the spelling of "what".....)
