You're welcome.

I chose B&W because of the ambiguity it gave the image. Cat and hosta became a face. |

Absolutely the free study is about experimenting, doing your own thing, exploring new ways to communicate old ideas even. Sometimes I feel like I'm on auto-pilot when voting in free studies, so it's honestly a pleasure to come across an entry that makes me stop and think "wtf is going on here?". Thanks for that! |

And were thoroughly punished for it - as was I (though not so severely) with Square Hexagon.
I gave it a 3 - not necessarily because of the OOF, but because I couldn't figure out what it was. It looks human, but the bright triangle of light below the eyes disrupts the contours of your subject in that area. It also could be an ape, or possibly even a dog. I thought it was intended to be a portrait of some kind, and since I couldn't figure out what it was, voted accordingly.
All that aside, I like the mood this captures. A friend of mine once said in a medieval story he wrote about someone learning to paint - the master said to the pupil, "Don't just show me what is there. If I want that, I'll invent a machine to do it." This picture definitely does not show what is there, but strongly conveys a mood of thought, contemplation, pondering. The grain and tones are strongly supportive of that mood. |

I also gave this a 6. I really like out of focus abstracts. |

I applaud you for experimenting. Naturally this is abstract given the technique you used but this just doesn't grab me though. In any event, the technique is worth exploring further I think. It just needs the right scene to make it work effectively.
That aside I was wondering if this was converted to black and white. If so I am curious what this would look like in color. |

Yeah, maybe you should try putting the subject in focus next time, you blur-loving Dodo. |
