This friend of mine was kind enough to pose in a photo shoot that we videoed to make a small marketing film for the studio.
I often use these nets in my shoots, I like how they resemble smoke or clouds around the models. I bought 9 or 10 different colors to add splashes of color to a simple black or white background, and to give the subject something to play with. This picture in particular makes me think of both 50's starlette glam and it was pointed out that she looks like Cinderella's Fairy Godmother.
For editing it was cropped in Lightroom 2
Exported to Tiff and brought into Portrait professional
I do no restructuring, but maxed the following skin controls:Imperfections, Thin Wrinkles, Remove Pores and some fine shadows and remove shine. Then in the eye control. Maxed sharpen eyes, then went into the detail and took off the sharpen on her eyebrows. Just a touch of saturation in the mouth conrols, then the magic came in the hair controls. I selected not only her hair but all of the netting then in Hair tidying mode ran Fill hair shadows and smooth all the way to 100, comeing out I bumped the highlight up just a touch. Saved the tiff, brought into Photoshop resized, Luko's sharpened and saved for web.
I hope you enjoy

This is an excellent portrait. Very nice lighting, colors, pose and general composition. I think if the processing of the skin and eyes was dialed back a bit this would score over a six. Nice job. |

There is too much processing done here. The shot has completely lost any semblance of a natural look and has become almost cartoon / watercolour like. The retouching has left some obvious marks across the face and has made the material look almost plastic in some areas.
Ignoring the processing, your lighting and exposure are good. The composition is a little centered, and while I get what you are doing with all the material, I think it's too much and is taking over the shot. |
