I was at a light house and the sun was reflecting off the white wall outside. It was a clear sunny 6pm I think. Not a whole lot of setup, just natural light. I was taking photos of him because he usually makes a lot of goofy faces.
I didn't do a lot of editing. (I never really learned how) Desaturation, and I messed with the curves just a bit.

There's something strange about this photo that I really can't put my finger on. It looks like it's in focus, so the only reason I can think of is that you shot it with the highest aperture (3.5, 5.6, or something like that) of your lens if you used an DSLR. If that's the case, know that many lenses needs to be at f/8 or f/9 to "achieve maximum sharpness". Something is out I'm afraid... The black and white conversion looks very "press this button to convert to black and white"ish as well.. Going to check yor exif when the voting ends.
